Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 August 2026

1. Controller and contact

Lunafox, the provider of Barhops and based in England and Wales, is the controller of your personal data. For privacy requests or questions, email data@lunafox.org.

2. Data we collect

We collect account information (email, username, password handled by our authentication provider, bio and avatar); public profile information; friends and Crawl Group membership; crawls, events, attendance, invitations, ratings, reviews, favourites, visits and check-ins; photos, captions and other user content; device and app information; push-notification tokens; purchase/transaction information needed to provide entitlements; and support or report information.

We collect precise location only when you permit it, to find nearby bars, support route planning and navigation, and verify check-ins. We may process venue names, location context, route preferences and vibes when you use AI features.

3. How we use data and our legal bases

  • Provide the service: account, crawls, groups, content, purchases and support — performance of our contract with you.
  • Location, camera, photo library and notifications: where required, your consent; you can withdraw it in device settings.
  • Safety, moderation, fraud prevention, security, service improvement and analytics: our legitimate interests in running a safe, reliable service, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligations and law-enforcement requests: compliance with legal obligations.
  • Marketing: only where permitted by law and, where required, with your consent. You can opt out at any time.

4. Who can see your information

Username, bio and avatar are public. Reviews and ratings are public. Individual visits are visible to friends, while aggregate or statistical visit data may be public. Crawls are visible to friends and people who attended that crawl. Crawl photos are visible to friends and people on the same crawl. Crawl Group members may receive automatic invitations to the group’s activities. Do not upload information you do not want shared under these settings.

5. Service providers and international transfers

We use providers to run Barhops, including Supabase for authentication and database services, Cloudflare R2 for media storage, Expo and platform providers for notifications, Apple and Google for sign-in and in-app purchases, mapping and venue-data providers, and Google Gemini for AI features. Providers may process data outside the UK. Where required, we use applicable transfer mechanisms and contractual safeguards. We do not sell personal data.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep data only for as long as needed for the purposes above: generally while your account is active; for a reasonable period afterwards to deal with deletion, disputes, fraud, security and legal obligations; and longer where law requires. Deleting an account removes personal data from active systems, subject to backups, lawful retention and content or statistics that have been anonymised or aggregated. You can request deletion at our deletion page.

7. Cookies, storage and analytics

Our website and app may use cookies, local storage, analytics and similar technologies for operation, security, preferences and measurement. Where consent is required for non-essential technologies, we will ask before using them. See the choices provided in the relevant service or browser/device settings.

8. Security and children

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data, but no online service is completely secure. Barhops is intended only for people of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal data from people who do not meet that requirement; contact us if you believe this has happened.

9. Your rights

You may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. Contact data@lunafox.org. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you are unhappy with how we handle your data.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy to reflect changes to Barhops or law. We will update the date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
